Where is Valdy?

I am starting to compile what IT&T (information technology and telecommunication) challenges that I am facing as individual or as team whether is for individual, clients (small business or corporate) or partners. From a simple question to a task or project. It could take to minutes or hours or days or even months to solve but we are determined as much as we love the challenge. [@valdy]

We need to move sharepoint database to different server. How do we need to do this?

Solution:

Solution that we found is bit complex and required down time. Need to explore other option at this stage.

Challenge:

We have a document launcher application and we need to modify the template so it will include new  logo and footer. The user who created this application has left the company and no document what so ever. No development/staging as well.

Solution:

By looking at this codes and template’s VBA, point to the user how to solve that. Advise to setup a proper Dev/Test environment first in order to move forward.

I am not sure how this user can by pass the question without answering the answer in our survey application?

Solution:

The user has the ability to jump between one question to another. The functionality of this survey needs to be reviewed. It has to have a validation at the end of the survey.

Implement the community builder with extra add-on such as forum, blogging/wikis and articles separating from the corporate site.

Check in the Joomla Global Configuration > System > User Settings.

When I logged into Administration of Joomla site, there is no menu appearing.

Solution:

Try this approach by changing lower case “a” for administrator. Type in the URL: www.yourdomain.com/administrator instead of www.yourdomain.com/Administrator

I cleared my mailbox this morning (downloaded 9Mb only) and then this message came through. What settings need to be changed to ensure I don’t hit my 100% limit?

Solution:

The current configuration sets to 7 days to keep on POP server in order for mobile device has a chance to download the email. Reset this to perhaps 3 days or minimum 1 day.

Challenge:

We have a multiple DNS servers and it seems one of DNS entry is not correct.

Got this Vodafone USB Wireless Stick which it didn’t work anymore.

Solution:

With a help with Vodafone Data Support, they pointed to update the specific Vodafone device in the Device Manager under Windows.

The new report requires to pivoting the table and from that table then it somehow need to have a pair between the “Current” and “Proposed” value.

Solution:

Take approach of CTE (Common Table Exporession) from SQL Server 2K5. See this blog for more detail.

Challenge:

I’ve setup this distribution list before and it’s working nicely when I send an email. But I want to modify the list and I am not sure how to change this.

Solution:

Check the current distribution list and none on the list. So ask the user to recreate a new one. It seems due to migration it might remember what they are for some reason.

Challenge:

I haven’t receive anything from my mobile device yesterday. Came in this morning and I can see I have several email coming in on my laptop.

Solution:

Challenge:

I’ve joined wireless network and it said ‘Connected’ but when I open up browser I can browse any page.

Solution:

Turn out that that the static IP address was set. Remove that setting and allow dynamic IP address and it works.

Challenge:

When I logged in using facebook, I’ve managed to get in but the page is only half way through. BTW … I am using IE6. I can see there exclamation mark on the left bottom corner. If I use Google Chrome works well.

Solution:

Advice user to upgrade to IE 8. The user follow the upgrade and the issue is no longer exist.

Challenge:

The current design focus on service and it’s very studio style. It needs to incorporate products which is not very suit.

Solution:

Change the design to something like modern and simple as well Web 2.0 design.

Challenge:

I have a website that I asked some one to build and into 2 stages (Design and Backend with 2 different people). What do you think?

Solution:

It’s better to do with a single web developer company that can do both. Cause the designer might have design where the coder couldn’t achieve or vice versa. If the designer already signed off the job, it’s going to be difficult to do a new enhancement unless you have to pay extra. Beside it is much cheaper approach if you go to web developer company due they can bundle the cost. Since you are already in, we advice the user to keep an eye on budget as well communicate well between these 2 resources ensure that they talk each other.

Challenge:

The current report is filtered by Site Name which is not really relevant due to site name could have a similar name.

Solution:

Change the report model to incorporate NMI which is unique code for site.

Challenge:

The current report is only allowing up to 9 or 10 entries into 1 page. It will be nice to incorporate more into one page.

Solution:

Review the current report and change the font size, test  and deploy the report.

Challenge:

We have a requirement for having 2 Level Hierarchy in grid using Telerik. I’ve managed to make the first level working but not sure about the second level one. BTW … I am using the _NeedDataSource event for populating the first level BUT I have no idea using the same method to do the second level.

Solution:

To achieve the desired functionality you could try using the DetailTableDataBind event. Challenge:
I got this SQL query for reporting that I would like to solve. The only way to it is through CURSOR. Is there  elegant way?

Solution:

Challenge:

I got this WebGuard appearing on my machine while I am browsing and won’t let me inserting the username and password.

Solution:

Tested the username and password and still won’t allow to browse. Reboot the machine and finally it allow the user to browse.

Need to setup new printer driver for FujiXerox DocuCentre-IV 2770 in this machine.

Solution:

Install the new driver for this machine

Challenge:

Got the following error when compiling .NET application: “Cannot use a leading .. to exit above the top directory.”

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Cannot use a leading .. to exit above the top directory.

Solution:

Check within ASP.NET page (.aspx or .aspx.cs) in relation to path.  Possibly the image is referencing a path such as “..\..\Img\Edit.gif” which is not exist.

Can’t print with a new FujiXerox printer with mac.

Solution:

With a help of the FujiXerox technical support, the driver needs to set using FX Mac OSx 1.1 setting.

Challenge:

We have a new printer FujiXerox and need an IT reps for discussing the installation as well training.

Give the IP configuration and configuring client machine as well as other technical question about the product as well as attending quick training.

Challenge:

I couldn’t see .WMV video in my mac.

Solution:

Installing flip2mac component for  QuickTime.

Challenge:

I need to install the update of accounting software and one of the requirement is to turn off the antivirus and firewall.

Solution:

Show how to turn off manually from Task Manager in Windows Vista and turning off the windows firewall.

Challenge:

In Joomla CMS application, I am trying to upload files in media manager and it will not show me any files to browse. The browse files option will show for a mini-second and then dissapear. I can’t update the information I need. Any ideas why?

Solution:

Disable the Flash uploader completely in Site > Global Configuration > System > Enable Flash Uploader and setting this to ‘No’.

Challenge:

Taking the solution below – “How to manage the constants for the code? What is the best approach? “, what is the best way to handle the enumerations?

Challenge:

Due to a limitation of enumeration which can’t handle the string, the approach is to use custom attribute the as description. See: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/stringenum.aspx. It works well but apparently due to using the Reflection, it slows down if you have many enumerations. The best approach will be to use Type-safe enum pattern - http://www.javacamp.org/designPattern/enum.html. See more discussion around this on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/424366/c-string-enums. There is a drawback using these 2 approaches which are if you try to quality on the switch statement for C#, you need somehow to change into if statement instead.

Challenge:

How to manage the constants for the code? What is the best approach?

Solution:

Think Code Refactoring (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_refactoring) which means that if built for web apps, all constant/enumeration for the web application project sitting on separate class in the web project not as stand alone class/common class. The same with business/services class as well as data classes.

Challenge:

I am doing maintenance for the server. Can you tell me where the results of CHKDSK would be displayed or stored?

Challenge:

You can check the Chkdsk log file by opening the Control Panel, double click on “Adminstrative Tools”, double click on the “Event Viewer” icon, then click on “Application”. In the “Source” column, double click on the “Winlogon” item.

Can’t send an email but I can receive an email on my Mac at home yesterday.

Solution:

Apparently, Telstra Bigpond has blocked port 25 for outgoing email. Set the setting to port 2525 as per Email hosting provided.

Challenge:

New NT backup scheduled has failed for some reason.

Solution:

Reset the password on backup scheduled task and manually run.

Challenge:

On our SQL Server 2000, we have an issue on creating the Maintenance Plan. Error 8114: Error converting data type into to tinyint.

Solution:

If you looked when setting backup, normally it’s asking how frequent you want to keep the backup (day, week, month) but for some reason it’s blank.

Challenge:

Continue on the issue in regards to deploying/publishing web application, the deployment on  IIS7 is still not working properly.

Solution:

On the IIS 7 configuration, it requires to change the application pool to Classic .Net AppPool.  Alternatively, the Telerik control code needs to change to version that support Integrated Mode.

Challenge:

Can’t view WMV files in MAC.

Solution:

The Flip4Mac which is plugin for QuickTime  is not working properly. The video has a blank screen and no audio. So uninstall this and then install VLC instead and it work nicely.

Challenge:

The McAfee antivirus has installed on every single machine manually and it requires to manage this centrally.

Solution:

McAfee has a product called ePolicy Orchestrator. Install and configure and due to network has no domain so the package needs to be installed manually first and then server can push the update directly to the client machine.

Challenge:

The display on my Window is upside down.

Solution:

Right click on the Desktop area and click Graphic properties. Then select Display Setting tab.  Untick “Enable Rotation”.

13/05/2010:

Challenge:

There is an issue on the way of deploying/publishing the web application through Visual Studio 2008. The error is related on Ajax:

Message: Unexpected ajax response was received from the server.
This may be caused by one of the following reasons:
- Server.Transfer
- Custom http handler
- Incorrect loading of an “Ajaxified” user control.

Solution:

While debugging the application, this issues is never happens so it’s only in the deployment mode. So tested this in production and testing environment, this issue again never happens. It comes to conclusion that this must be related on IIS 7 on Vista.

12/05/2010:

Challenge:

Inconsistency error for the backup.

Solution:

After trial and error for the last few weeks, finally in come to conclusion that the backup it’s too big to handle close to 0.5 TB in one big file. So we decide to split into a smaller piece of backup files and set the backup accordingly.

Challenge:

The “Clients” file server file structure is not suit for splitting the backup.

Solution:

Break up that folder into alphabetical group order such as A-F, G-K etc etc. Target each backup file into this sub. folder

Challenge:

Due to the .NET 4 is out already, the current application is running on .NET 2.0 and it’s time to move to 3.5.

Solution:

After researching on this and testing it, the application has successfully moved to .NET 3.5. platform.

Challenge:

I have this Video camera and I would like to put the video into DVD. I bought the software + hardware for it. It seems it’s not working.

Solution:

Test the software the bought and confirmed that it’s not working. So we came up with other solution by using the other software by copying the video into a PC and then convert to DVD. It’s 2 steps but then you don’t have to purchase the software.

Challenge:

The C: Drive on our server only has 300MB left. It’s running on Windows 2003 Server edition.

Solution:

Delete manually C:\Windows\$NTUninstallXXXX folders. Check out this article http://www.lwcomputing.com/tips/static/bootdrivesize.asp and it covers all aspects of removing unnecessary files.

Challenge:

In our ElcoDB application, we need to have a few changes in order to streamline the process.

Solution:

After developing the new requirement, the new update has been released today and this solve some issue in relation to streamline the tendering process.

Challenge:

Can’t send out an email and it keeps asking the username and password.

Solution:

The POP3 account for outgoing server is replaced accidently. After researching on why this happens, it turns out that the day before there was an outage at ISP email provider. during working hours.

When I open this Excel file, the sheet tab on bottom dissapear and I know this spreadsheet has 3 tabs. Help!!!

Turn out that the tab is in minimised mode. After double click on the header of the sheet, the sheet maximises and the tab appears.

Challenge:

In our Electricity tendering system custom application, we have a massive data entry for entering the tender. We need a new functionality/way to do reduce this. [Essential Utilities Corporation]

Solution:

We provide a solution by adding new functionality (designing, re-coding and testing the current application) for a short cut. This will reduce the data entry time substantially as well as human error for entering the tender.

Challenge:

I got these files and I have an IPhone. How do I transfer these files into iPhone as a file storage device?

Solution:

After trying moving files into iPhone drive with no luck, there is a solution for this which is using third party software called i-FunBox download from i-funbox.com. Just installed and click the icon to copy from PC to iPhone.

Challenge:

When updating Direct Message (DM) on twitter especially if you cut and paste the message, you click submit and the message won’t update for some reason.

Solution:

I think there is a bug on system so alternative you need to paste in first the message and you select the user that you need to reply then click submit button.

Challenge:

We got a new MacBook Pro and would like to transfer from Windows’s Microsoft Outlook data (emails, calendar, contacts) into a new Mac Microsoft Entourage (office 2008).

Solution:

There is no straight solution on this. In regards to emails, you need to install Mozilla Thunderbird on the windows machine and then import the Outlook contacts. You need to download a plugin for ExportImport and then you need to select each individual folder then export. Once you exported, you need to rename to .mbox. Then go to Mac machine, open up Entourage and then just drag the file into this. In regards contact & calendar, needs to explore a bit more.

Challenge:

I got two Windows Live accounts and I don’t want to display the second one as default account.

Solution:

Log off the second account and try to login the first one instead. This will remember the first account as a default account.

Challenge:

The current site needs to have more into portal based that can captured email, linking to our facebook/twitter, weather and rss. [@IndoGolf.com.au]

Solution:

Add module for accepting email for newsletter, putting facebook/twitter links, linking up weather.com module and lastly incorporating rss module into the site.

Challenge:
We have the following backup on our NTBackup: Error: An inconsistency was encountered in the requested backup file.

Solution:

Possibly in relation to Shadow Copy has been turned off. So the NTBackup command line need to be adjusted by adding /SNAP:off for both scheduled backup. Need to monitor this.

Challenge:

User needs to able to see other user calendar online. The other user is using Ms Outlook Calendar Online that published to Ms Windows Live network.

Solution:

The user needs to login to the  Windows Live and Subscribe the calendar by click subscribe tab in Windows live interface. Add the URL that the other user and click subscribe.

Challenge:

Continue for the issue below – Could not load file or assembly ‘System.Web.Extensions. After few hours, it’s back again and the file is no longer on that bin folder anymore.

Solution:

Reinstall the ASP.NET Ajax again.

Challenge:
We have the following on our website: Could not load file or assembly ‘System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35′ or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Solution:

It seems that the Windows Update causing this. All you need to do copy the System.Web.Extensions.dll file to the bin directory of this application.

Challenge:
I have a USB portable disc and when hooked up to my pc or any other machine. I can see the disc comes up but I can see what it’s in it. It seem the data is gone. Help!!!

Solution:
It seems that master boot is corrupt. Find the machine that can see this drive. Write down the drive and run chkdsk [Drive] /f /r command to fix the error.

On the printer, my host name is not correct? How do change this host name?

Solution:

On Windows, change the computer name to the right name and reboot the box.

The technique that we use in Ms Excel for analysing the billing data is not right? Is there any other technique and simple that we can use?

Solution:

Need to understand how this billing structure works. After that introduce a simple SQL Server for Extract, Transform and Load to analyse the data.

When I cut and paste from my Sales Force template, I got the strange symbol next to each line and I want to remove that.

Solution:

After cut and paste to Outlook Meeting Request,  click anywhere within the document and the click the special button on top navigation to disable that.

Challenge:

When I open up  the Ms Excel 2007 file that I created, I got the following error – There was a problem sending the command to the program.

Solution:

Bring up the Excel options, go to advanced and then scroll down to the “General” section.  Make sure that “Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)” is not checked.

We ordered a new DELL laptop battery and it won’t fit at all.

Solution:

Turn out that is not the right battery model. Ask to replace and send new one. Receive that and put on  a new one.

Running a patch for BIOS and the fan noise is gone now.

How to make the SQL SSIS package run automatically?

Solution:

Configure the SQL SSIS by doing as follow:

1. The job executor account needs the roles of sysadmin,  SQLAgentUserRole, SQLAgentReaderRole,  SQLAgentOperatorRole
2. The job needs to be run under Proxy account
3. The job executor account is better to be used to create SSIS package and so you are sure the job executor account has the right to run this SSIS package.

Challenge:

My laptop has very strange noise.

Solution:

That’s normal sound and it’s writing disk a lot cause there’s a process kicks in.

The IP address entry is pointing to wrong address on the DNS registry. Need to modify this on both DNS servers.

Solution:

Not really familar with Excel BUT the formula is using VB Scripts syntax so guide him to get the right answer.

Use the current template and cut the content down to single article. Combine the contacts from others and removing duplicates and tidying up the data. Send the 15,000+ contacts.

My computer is really slow in morning. I need to open SalesForce and Email quickly in the morning due to I have to respond from NZ which is they are 2 hours in front of us.

Solution:

Introduce the hibernate into the pc so you don’t have to logged off (restart). Advise to use this method before leaving the office.

After few weeks in planning, finally the website is up with fresh design and focusing on portfolio and gearing up to Web 2.0 model.

How do I forward my SMS in iPhone?

Solution:

Forwarding SMS message has built in feature in iPhone Firmware 3.0 or higher. To forward the message, simply:

• View the message that you would like to forward and tap Edit button on the top
• Select the message that you would like to forward
• Tap forward at the bottom screen

For the older version, you need to download third party application such as iSMS etc etc.

Challenge:

I got the warning saying that the antivirus is not updated in my pc. What do I need to do?

Solution:

The antivirus update was failed. The antivirus needs to reinstall. It’s possible that the cause of this is windows update.

This morning, my machine is running really slow. Any ideas what cause might be?

Solution:

Set the scheduled windows update and anti virus when the user not available for instance during lunch time (1-2PM or 4-5PM).

Challenge:

We have about 500,000+ records to data process into a common data and we use SQL Server Integratioon Services to do this task. At the moment, it took about less than 10 minutes to process. I am just wondering if you could run less than than this. The server specification is quite good with 4GB RAM and 2 CPUs and it’s reasonably the latest hardware. What is your thought about this?

Solution:

Looking at this,  may need to look SQL Server Integration Services performance practise by doing the benchmarking and measuring it. It may relate into the ETL (extract transform and load) query that is not optimised.

Challenge:

We have a file server running in Windows 2003 and on of our folder we need to identify the size of the folder so we can do some archiving. How do I find the size?

Solution:

After researching and installing couple tools, we reckon the WinDirStat is one off the best tool to find the size for each folder.

Challenge:

I have a new iPhone and I would like to connect to a corporate network. How do I do that?

Solution:

You need to ask permission first whether it’s ok or not to use corporate network. If it does, then on your iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Under Choose a Network, select your corporate network and ask password to IT Administrator for this.

Challenge:

I can’t get into to Virtual Private Network (VPN) to our corporate network on this laptop. But the with other laptop, I can go to internet no problem.

Solution:

With the first laptop that you having an issue, see if the laptop can browse internet first. Turn out that the first laptop can’t get the Wi-Fi and ask to turn off/on for the Wi-Fi connection.

Challenge:

The internet is really slow for couple days. Check the download usage and still have 10GB free on peak and offpeak.

Solution:

After discussing with the ISP, the best way is to get the benchmark first by downloading file to the ISP’s website and write down the speed in KBytes/sec. Then do the simple networking configuration by connecting modem with laptop/pc directly and again write down the speed. Then try to test close to socket and remove any device connected such as phone and fax and filter. From here, it will tell if it’s issue on the device or ISP.

Solution:

Review the Junk Email regularly. The best is to to set low and have a regular check to junk email like every week end.

Solution:

The report is correct actually. There is an issue with data. The counselor possibly allocate the activities into the wrong code/activity.

Embedded Adobe flash worked nicely on web environment. But when compiled and deploy into a CD, the external link is not loading at all. [CD Multimedia Financial Counselling Project]

Solution:

With help with our partner, create HTML page for each external link and inside that HTML file, use the redirection tag to point to external link and put an animated image saying “Redirection”. Once that file ready, point the URL to this page in the flash.

Challenge:

I can’t win the bid on the stuff that I want. How do I refund my money from this bid***.com.au site?

Solution:

You have to do some researches on this before you are joining or even giving your money online. Find out their company is by looking at Contact Us section and generally legitimate company has physical address as well as phone number. If you find the company, get the company name and search in to Google “[company name] scam” and see the respond is and use your common sense to judge whether is legitimate or not. Generally, the company that has .dot.com.au it must have a physical company here in Australia.

This laptop is used to work with wireless but now it’s not working any more.

I set few emails (company as well as my Yahoo) account into my IPhone but none of them is working. Any ideas?

Solution:

The configuration is not complete so I need to delete these previous settings. Starting with Yahoo, I am configuring by putting the right username and password and it works. For the company email, you need to contact to your IT administrator to get the detail of your email configuration.

Solution:

The battery life is reaching the end of life. Contact the laptop manufacture to replace if it’s under the warranty or order a new one.

Solution:

Move the old file into the archive server and start compressing the text file and this will save spacing issue.

Solution:

The antivirus update as well as the windows update kicks in the morning as well. It needs to reschedule the time to lunch time of after hours.

Challenge:

In regards to monthly subscription from the external vendor for bulk mail service that we have, it seems it’s not right. Could you explore this and what option that we have? [@ Store A Box]

Solution:

The vendor is adopting the “Software as a Service” model which is allowing the customer to rent the application instead of owning it. They have 2 cost structure ie: Monthly subscription and number of the email sent. So let say if you don’t send an email this month then all you need is paying the subscription fee only. There is also an option for deactivate temporarily but then to reactivate there is a small fee though from the vendor. Other option is starting to use this service by integrating your website contact form feeding back to the mail system so you are kind use this to a full capacity of the system. Also, you might think to use this for centralising all your contacts if you don’t have a Customer Relationship Management system in place.

Challenge:

On the standard report, the stored procedure query is working fine and then tested on the reporting service again no problem. But when we deployed on the application, it didn’t seem to work. [@dewaForce]

Solution:

On the reporting service designer, one of the filter has no equal sign next to the filter string section and also the configuration in the client report needs to be adjusted especially in navigation otherwise the report only display a single page.

Challenge:

There is an issue with Telecommunication application. It seems that the cost call detail report hasn’t match up with cost summary report. Can you investigate this?

Solution:

The raw bill that is coming from the vendor hasn’t include the “discount” into the cost call detail and it’s only appearing on the summary. If you take out the total discount from the cost call detail, the total cost call detail will be the same as cost summary.

In the Electricity application, there are 2 columns in the data entry in relation to Supply and Demand Charges. Can I enter these both these 2 columns or one of the other? Does it affect on the output report? [@ Essential Utilities Corporation]

Solution:

When we design and develop this application, these columns are independent each other. So if you input into these columns, it will smart to display on the report both of the value accordingly.

Can’t access to the file server.

Solution:

The server won’t boot up and stuck at the Remote Access BIOS. With the help of Dell technical support, we’ve tried by removing the card from the mother board and tested the result. It turns out that the Remote Access card is causing the issue and it needs to be replaced.

Solution:

After checking the network and confirming the internet line is OK, it turns out that that the modem as well as Cisco firewall needs to power off and power back on.

Solution:

We rather go to the established brand such as Dell, HP or Lenovo. You can directly purchase online and you can extend warranty. Alternative, you can shop around on the big stores and sometimes they offer the old model laptop relative cheap. Nowadays with a new model laptop, you can get below AUD 800. Think the laptop similar to purchasing mobile phone which the laptop needs upgrade every 2 or 3 years to keep up with the technology.

For some reason, I felt every time I am accessing the folder or files my computer on the server is really slow.

Solution:

I found that there is a CD in the CD tray. When you are accessing the folder, Windows is trying to access what on the CD as well.

Solution:

The quick guide is not really clear. You just need to type in:

Challenge:

My laptop screen has a flickering at the bottom of the screen for a minute or so. How do I fix this?

Solution:

Contact to Dell support and find out what is wrong. Due to still under warranty, all we need to do is shipped back to Dell. Prior to this and due to this laptop has a highly secured data on it, the application and data needs to be removed and configured first to a other laptop while this laptop is repaired.

Since you guys implemented the Microsoft Sharepoint Intranet portal for us on our UAT (testing) environment. We would like now to move to a new production environment as well as integrating with global search engine capability. [@ Kincare]

Solution:

We install, configure and tune the Sharepoint intranet portal. We also integrate with Microsoft Search Server 2008 in order to have a capability for searching this portal as well as searching file server remotely.

My computer is stuffed. It’s reboot and trying recovery again and again. All I need is to get the data. [@ Essential Utilities Corporation]

Solution:

First solution comes up is that by fixing this recovery. Try couple times and it has no luck. So we move on to second option by creating a BartPE disk with Dell SATA disk and Network drivers. We lost few discs on this due we didn’t get it right. Finally, we boot up the BartPE and we can see the content of disk. With the network has been configured, we can copy all files from the disc to shared network driver.

Solution:

We design and build e-newsletter as well as integrating with the website with a dedicated campaign associated with it. We also manage their contact that they have and consolidate into a single contact database. We also manage the process the delivery every 2 weeks.

Solution:

The simple alternative will be that you need to understand the database structure by running the application and do the tracing. Once you get that then you can either write a scheduled report and target it to specific user/group or implement the report service such as Microsoft Reporting Services which has security around it and web based application.
